This week's question comes from Christina who blogs at The Paperback Princesses:
"If you find a book that looks interesting but is part of a series, do you always start with the first title?"
"If you find a book that looks interesting but is part of a series, do you always start with the first title?"
I always have to start with the first title. If a book is recommended to me and it is number 2 or 3 in a series, I will not read it until I have read the previous books. I feel that the first book really sets the tone for the series and gives the reader a lot of background information that will shed more light upon the characters. Even if reviews say the book can stand alone, I still go out and find the series and read them in order. I know...pretty anal! That's me! How about you?
Hi Mandy. Found you on the Hop and thought I'd come say Hi!
ReplyDeleteI wish I was as good as you, starting with the first book. I think I'm probably too lazy to wait to find the first book...eek!
:)
Hopping on by to say hi!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same with my reading a series as well. Have to start at book 1, no matter what. Even with a series like Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld, there's just stuff that happens and it's good to read them in order because in later books they refer to this or that event!

Hi!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think you're right about first books, they do set the tone, plus I love it with threads carry over to the rest of the stories, and you can smile at it.
Like with the Bridgerton series (which I see you're reading), arguably you can read them on their own, but you get a better sense of their family dynamic if you read them in order.
thanks for visiting my blog I'm now following you
ReplyDeleteI can be sort of compulsive about series reads. I always want to start with book one, and I get annoyed when I realize after the fact that a book is part of a series, and is not the first one!
